Moldova signs more documents on multilateral cooperation within Commonwealth of Independent States

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ – At the Council meeting of heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) governments, which was held today in Minsk, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova signed a number of draft documents on multilateral cooperation within the CIS, energy infrastructure and transport, combating organized crime and other types of crimes and in the humanitarian sphere.

Moldova was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic, Minister of Economy.

According to the Ministry of Economy’s press service, a number of decisions were adopted the meeting, aimed at streamlining the work of the CIS executive bodies and ensuring their financial activity for 2017.

The CIS heads of delegations had a meeting with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who presented information on the latest developments in integration options, to be developed by CIS. During the meeting with Belarusian President, the sides stressed the need to intensify and diversify trade and economic cooperation at bilateral and multilateral level within the CIS, including through full implementation of the Free Trade Agreement within the CIS, signed on 18 October 2011.

Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic said it to be extremely important to promote efficient economic policy, which would boost trade between member states and eliminate all barriers. "To achieve these objectives, it is imperative to pay special attention to the modernization and optimization of mechanisms of functioning of all CSI institutions," the Minister of Economy pointed out.

At the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, there were examined twenty subjects of common interest, a considerable part being oriented towards deepening and expanding economic cooperation within the CIS. The main topic on the agenda represented examining the results of implementing the provisions of the CIS Free Trade Agreement within.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government will develop its work in the second quarter of 2017 in the Russian Federation.
