Over 3,700 observers to monitor presidential polls in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Election Commission (CEC) accredited a total of over 3,700 observers to monitor the presidential elections of 30 October 2016.
CEC Chairman Alina Russu has said that the total number of observers, more than 3,200 are national, and about 550 are from abroad. "In the polling stations the observers will be already commencing 07.00 a.m., or even earlier, and till the tabulation of results. They will observe the law and proceedings to be followed correctly. However, observers can get involved in the electoral process itself," said CEC chairman.
Alina Russu said that the polling stations abroad will be attended by observers from the public association Promo-LEX, but also from the part of the candidates.
Today, CEC amended the number of ballots, which is currently 3,131,427 copies.
Sunday, 30 October, in Moldova there will be held the direct presidential elections. The race are keeping on nine candidates: Mihai Ghimpu – PL (Liberal Party), Iurie Leanca – PPEM (People’s European Party of Moldova), Dumitru Ciubasenco – PN (Our Party), Maia Sandu – PAS (Party of Action and Solidarity), PPDA (Platform Party Dignity and Truth), PLDM (Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova), Igor Dodon – PSRM (Socialist Party of Moldova), Silvia Radu – independent candidate Maia Laguta – independent candidate, Ana Gutu – Partidul Dreapta (Party of Equity of Rights) and Valeriu Ghiletchi – independent candidate.
