Turkey celebrates ninety three years of independence

Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Republic of Turkey, a country located on two continents (97 per cent of the country is located in South-West Asia (Anatolia peninsula) and 3 per cent in Europe (the Balkan Peninsula), on 29 October celebrates the Independence Day.
Turkey has borders with eight countries: Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest; Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the northeast; Iran (Persia) east; Iraq and Syria to the south. Turkey is a democratic republic, secular, constitutional, which political system was established in 1923. It is a member of the UN, NATO, OSCE, OECD, OIC and the Council of Europe. In October 2005, EU opened accession negotiations with Ankara. Its bases along the recent decades were laid by Mustafa Kemal, the founder of modern Turkey considered (also called "Atatürk" - "father of all Turks", a title which was awarded by Parliament in 1934).
The country has an area of 780, 000 square kilometers and a population of about 75 million people. Ankara is Turkey's capital city (2,82 million people), but historic capital Istanbul remains the financial, economic and cultural center of Turkey. Other major cities are: Izmir, Bursa, Adana, Trabzon, Malatya, Gaziantep, Erzurum, Kayseri, Izmit (Kocaeli), Konya, Mersin, Eskisehir, Diyarbakır, Antalya and Samsun. Approximately 68 per cent of Turkey's population lives in urban centers.
Turkey's economy is based on agriculture and advanced industry. The country exports steel products, electrical machinery, cotton, tobacco, vines, sugar beet, potatoes, herbs and imported petroleum products, industrial equipment, vehicles and consumer goods.
Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Turkey were set on 3 February 1992.
According to statistics, in seven months of 2016, Moldova has exported goods on Turkish market worth of USD 39,6 million (3,7 per cent of total domestic exports), 7 per cent more compared to the same period of 2015. In terms of imports in the first half of 2016, from Turkey there were imported goods worth USD 152 million, 13,7 per cent less than in the first six months of 2015.
On 1 November 2016, it will come into effect the free trade agreement between Moldova and Turkey, signed on 11 September 2014 and which aims to promote mutual trade, developing economic relations between Moldova and Turkey, eliminate trade barriers and expanding commerce and creating conditions to continue attracting investment, particularly for higher investment ventures in Moldova and Turkey. There are registered 1076 Moldovan-Turkish joint venture in Moldova, with an invested capital amounted to over 293 million lei.
