On presidential election day to hold local elections in four localities of Moldova

Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced today that on Sunday, 30 October 2016, simultaneously with the presidential elections, there will take place local elections in four localities in the Republic of Moldova.
According to CEC’s press service, it is related to the election of mayors in Iserlia commune in Basarabeasca district, Bucuria village, Cahul district, Galaseni commune, Riscani district and Galesti commune, Straseni district and a local referendum on revocation of the mayor of Pitusca village in Calarasi district.
The cited source stated that the mandate of the mayors of Iserlia commune in Basarabeasca district and Galaseni commune in Riscani district, ceased before expiring the term in connection with their death. In case of Bucuria village, Cahul district: the mayor resigned, and Galesti commune, Straseni district: the position is vacant due to the failure to perform the duties of mayor because of illness.
The Commission decided to fix the date of new local elections and referendum simultaneously with the presidential election in order to optimize costs for the organization and conduct of these elections.
