Two electoral contenders to compete in runoff

Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/- Candidate for president position on behalf of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon and candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, the Dignity and Truth Platform Party and Liberal Democratic Party Maia Sandu will compete in the runoff, according to the results announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) after processing 99.33 per cent of the reports.
During the runoff, due in two weeks, the citizens will elect between the two electoral contenders, who picked up most votes in the first round of the ballot.
According to CEC data, candidate Igor Dodon (PSRM) picked up 48.26 per cent of the votes, Maia Sandu (Action and Solidarity Party, Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Liberal Democratic Party) – 38.42 per cent, Dumitru Ciubasenco (Our Party) – 6.01 per cent, Mihai Ghimpu (Liberal Party) – 1.81 per cent, Iurie Leanca (European People’s Party of Moldova) – 3.11 per cent, Silvia Radu (independent candidate) – 0.4 per cent, Maia Laguta (independent candidate) – 0.75 per cent, Ana Gutu (Right Party) – 0.17 per cent and Valeriu Ghiletchi (independent candidate) – 1.06 per cent.
A number of 1,433 million voters (48.96 per cent) participated in the 30 October presidential elections.
Today, 31 October 2016 the CEC will present the preliminary results of elections at 10:00.
