Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development to back Moldova in small, medium-sized enterprises sector

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic had a meeting with representatives of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on 2 November. They are on a visit to Chisinau to present developments of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector in Moldova.
According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, Calmic appreciated OECD support for implementing the economic reforms promoted by the national authorities in business environment, especially, in terms of access to finances and business support infrastructure.
In the context, Calmic said that the Economics Ministry opted for more efficient cooperation with OECD as regards providing assistance in promoting policies on further supporting the SMEs via different support programmes for internationalization of local enterprises and increasing their competitiveness, their connection with foreign investors, as well as elaboration of a programme on adjusting the sector to the green economy principles, ensuring competitive environment on the market etc.
For his part, Head of the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme Antonio Somma expressed willingness and openness for continuity of partnership and providing assistance to Moldova in carrying out the priorities. He noted that the first step in this regard was the workshop on monitoring reforms of policies in the SMEs sector. OECD experts will unveil a set of proposals for increasing access to financing and business support services for the SMEs, as well as the good practices, case studies from the OECD member states.
Additionally, OECD experts will have meetings with other authorities and public institutions with competence in elaborating/implementing development policies of SMEs sector.
