Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/- Arts, science and culture representatives today announced their support for common right-wing candidate Maia Sandu in the runoff of the presidential elections.
The head of the Writers’ Union, Arcadie Suceveanu, said people of culture had always been at the forefront of the national revival process and noble cause to modernise and develop Moldova.
Members of unions believe that only common right-wing candidate Maia Sandu will be able to take Moldova out of the situation in which it found itself, Suceveanu said.
For his part, the head of the Theatrical Union of Moldova, Sandu Grecu, said Maia Sandu had been the only candidate of pro-European forces who tried to give a chance to change the situation in the country. “Only this politician has support on behalf of the EU, development partners and other international institutions which back us in modernising and developing the country.”
Journalists Union head Valeriu Saharneanu said”during 25 years we fight for freedom and independence, but we failed to get it, because of hidden interests of those who declare themselves defenders and promoters of these values.”
On 30 October 2016, no electoral candidate out of the nine ones picked up at least half of votes. According to the Electoral Code, the runoff for the two candidates will be organised in such situation. It is about candidate of PSRM Igor Dodon (47.98 per cent) and common right-wing candidate Maia Sandu (38.71 per cent).
