Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - Eight towns of Moldova will get the status of municipality, under a legislative amendment adopted by the parliament today.
According to the document, it is about the towns of Cahul, Hincesti, Ungheni, Soroca, Edinet, Ceadir-Lunga and Straseni.
The head of the parliamentary commission for public administration, regional development and climate changes, Violeta Ivanov, has told MOLDPRES that the providing of the status of municipality to these towns implied that 20 per cent of the taxes collected remain in the city’s budget.
The draft’s authors said that giving the status of municipality to these settlements would contribute to creating needed conditions for boosting the social and economic development of these urban centres, to developing the influence zone on the whole and would attenuate the present disparities of territorial development.
The law enters into force upon publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
Presently, five Moldovan settlements have status of municipality – Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol, Bender and Comrat.
