Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - The former President of Romania, Traian Basescu, and his wife, Maria Basescu, today took the oath to get the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
The ceremony took place at Moldova’s Embassy in Romania.
“I want to thank Mr. President Nicolae Timofti, who under decree gave me the right to become citizen of the Republic of Moldova. This is a republic which I love as my country, to which I feel attached through culture, education, language and especially by solidarity. Namely this prompted me, during the ten years in office as president of Romania, to undertake actions in favour of Moldova and the European integration of this country,” Basescu said.
The former president of Romania, Traian Basescu, also said that “there were many moments, in which we could back each other; therefore, I am proud that my dream, to have a citizenship valid from the western border to the Dniester river, has come true.”
The application on getting the citizenship of Moldova was submitted by the ex-president of Romania, Traian Basescu, and his wife on 10 March 2016. Subsequently, in last June, under a decree by President Nicolae Timofti, Traian Basescu and his wife received the citizenship of Moldova.
