Moldova, Romania to boost cooperation in energy sector

Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, Minister of Economy, Trade and Relations with Business Environment Costin Grigore Borc. The main topics were related to the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in the energy sector and the possibility to initiate new projects on the matter, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The premier said power interconnection between Moldova and Romania, as well as Moldova’s interconnection with the European energy market represented a priority. Filip noted that the Moldovan government was flexible and determined to implement projects on building energy infrastructure.
At the same time, the premier thanked the Romanian government for the support in building Iasi-Ungheni gas pipe, as well as for grant funding worth 550,000 euros in elaborating the technical project on building Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipe.
“These projects are important for Moldova not only from a sectoral perspective, but also strategic one. When speaking about the energy security, we must provide more energy sources, and it is important to have this Moldovan-Romanian interconnection,” he said.
For his part, Costin Grigore Borc approached the experience of Romanian companies in the energy sector, pointing out that they had desire and possibilities to extend. “These projects represent not only a diversification of energy sources for Moldova, but also opportunity to develop economy of Romania in the region,” Borc said.
The officials also exchanged opinions about the ninth meeting of the intergovernmental joint commission on economic cooperation between Moldova and Romania held in Chisinau on 3-4 November. In the context, they stressed the importance of the Romanian companies’ participation in competitions of privatization organized in the country.
