Moldovan electoral body increases number of ballot papers for citizens of Diaspora

Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided today to increase by 10,500 copies circulation of ballot papers for polling stations abroad.

According to CEC chairman Alina Russu, after modifications, the total number of ballots will be 3,142,427 copies. "At ten polling stations which are opened abroad, the number of ballots will be increased from two thousand to three thousand copies. These polling stations are in Canada, USA, France, Portugal, Switzerland and Holland," stated Russu.

"The request comes from Diaspora and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. CEC adopted this decision to let all Moldovan citizens living abroad to exercise their vote in the runoff of the presidential elections," Russu specified.

Thereby, citizens with the right to vote abroad will do it at 100 polling stations in 33 countries, 40 of them working in the premises of diplomatic missions and the rest 60 in other locations established beforehand. Most polling stations are opened in Italy – 25, in Romania – 11, the Russian Federation – 8, the USA – 7, France – 6, Portugal and Spain – 4 polling stations each etc.

Also today, CEC chairman Alina Russu, announced that on 5 November "it will be made matrix of the ballot paper for the runoff of the presidential elections."

The direct presidential elections runoff will take place on 13 November 2016. The citizens will be able to choose between candidates who accumulated most votes in the first round – Igor Dodon, leader of the Socialist Party of Moldova (PSRM) and Maia Sandu, leader of Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).
