Moldovan PM meets Turkish deputy premier

Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş in Comrat on the occasion of participation of officials in the second issue of an international investment forum “Invest Gagauzia”. The main topics were related to the bilateral cooperation and possibilities to deepen the Moldovan-Turkish dialogue, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Filip described the relations between Moldova and Turkey as very good, reiterating Moldova’s interest in expanding the Moldovan-Turkish cooperation in different sectors. In this context, the premier underlined the importance of entrance into force of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries starting from 1 November 2016. The document aims at promoting the mutual commerce and expanding the trade exchanges. At the same time, Filip expressed Moldovan authorities’ interest in signing a Declaration on setting a strategic partnership between Moldova and Turkey, which would mean switching the bilateral relations to a new stage.
In the context, the premier reiterated invitation for his Turksih counterpart to visit Moldova and stressed the opportunity to convene in the near future a meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish intergovernmental joint commission on economic cooperation.
For his part, the Turkish official congratulated the Moldovan government for the good holding of the first round of presidential elections wishing success to authorities in organizing the runoff.
In another context, the Turkish deputy premier expressed his country’s willingness to continue providing support to boost the bilateral relations with Moldova and initiating new projects, including assistance projects in Gagauzia. At the same time, he said Turkey was among main trade partners of Moldova, in 2015 the trade exchanges exceeded 211 million dollars, and the authorities from Ankara take measures needed to increase the trade exchanges much more.
Filip thanked the Turkish side for the support provided to Moldova and expressed openness for deepening the Moldovan-Turkish dialogue and drawing Turkish investments in Moldovan economy.
