Moldovan deputy foreign minister participates in presentation of National Report in the UN Human Rights Council

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii participated between 4 and 8 November 2016, in Geneva, Switzerland, as Deputy Head of the Moldovan delegation, headed by the Minister of Justice, in the presentation of the National Report on Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova within the frameworks of the Universal Periodic Review in the UN Human Rights Council, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and media communication service has reported.
The Moldovan delegation presented on 4 November 2016, the progress in promoting human rights by the Moldovan governmental institutions during 2012-2016, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Moldovan authorities to respect and promote fundamental human rights, measures in the justice sector, the rights of children and persons with disabilities, media freedom, combating trafficking in human beings and others. In the course of the interactive dialogue that lasted three and a half hours, the Moldovan side received questions from 75 countries from all geographical groups. The Moldovan delegation answered within the allotted time a considerable part of them. The openness of the Moldovan delegation to a meaningful and concrete dialogue was highly appreciated by a large number states participating in the interactive session, which welcomed the progress the Republic of Moldova had registered since the previous review in 2011.
Deputy Minister Darii presented today, 8 November 2016, the preliminary position of the Moldovan authorities regarding the recommendations made by the states, which participated in the interactive dialogue. He assured that the recommendations on improving certain aspects in the human rights field, formulated by the partner states during the interactive dialogue, will be carefully analyzed by the Moldovan authorities and will be implemented accordingly.
The Moldovan official stressed the importance the Moldovan authorities attach to promoting and protecting human rights. Lilian Darii also underlined the need for an efficient interaction at international level in assuring the protection of rights of all persons, in a time when global security environment affects the implementation of human rights standards and principles.
