Moldovan government approves ratification of agreement on grant between Moldova, top European bank

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers has approved the ratification of an agreement on grant between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with the help of which a project titled, Apa Nord Moldova (Water North Moldova), will be implemented. The project sees financing of works for modernizing the water supply networks of settlements from northern Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The grant is worth ten million euros and accounts for one third of the project’s overall value. About 400,000 citizens from the districts of Soroca, Drochia, Floresti, Riscani, Singerei and the Balti municipality will benefit from this project.
The implementation of the project, Apa Nord Moldova, will provide residents from northern region with safe drinking water, and will respectively, help improve these citizens’ living standards and protect the environment.
Also to protect the environment, the cabinet approved a national strategy on management of radioactive waste for 2017-2026. The document is meant to ensure friendly conditions for a safe radiological activity, in line with international standards.
The strategy sets the goals, trends of action and needed specific measures to protect the population and the environment from harmful effects of radioactive sources on the period when the latter pose a radiological danger.
To implement the Strategy, the government will earmark both financial sources from the state budget and from the foreign assistance, provided to Moldova within cooperation projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency, other international organizations, as well as on behalf of states interested in strengthening the capacity of management of radioactive waste in Moldova.
