Over 29 per cent of voters present at ballot boxes by 13:00

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/- Over 837,000 voters (29 per cent) were present at the ballot boxes by 13:00.

About 800,000 voters or 28 per cent voted by 13:00 in the first round of presidential elections, by 1 per cent less than today.

The head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Alina Russu, said that all polling stations were operating in normal regime. “Over 51 per cent of voters are women and nearly 48 per cent – men. About 8 per cent of total number of voters are citizens aged between 18-25 years, over 22 per cent – aged of 26-40 years, around 26 per cent – between 41-55 years old, over 34 per cent – 56-70 years and about 9 per cent –over 71 years old,” Russu said.

“At the same time, the constituency with the highest voter turnout is Rezina city (30 per cent), the lowest one – Cantemir district (20 per cent). Settlement with the most active voters is Pocrovca, Donduseni district (63 per cent), most passive are residents of Caracusenii Vechi village, Briceni district (8 per cent). A significant increase in voter turnout is in the Transnistrian region,” Russu noted.

The CEC head said that over 43,000 citizens had voted abroad, or around 5 per cent. “The countries with the highest frequency of the electoral process are: Russia, Italy, France and Romania,” Russu said.

No contestations have been submitted by 13:00 to CEC as regards the actions of electoral contenders or on decisions and/or actions of lower electoral bodies. At the same time, three cases have been registered on attempt of election fraud (multiple voting).

Runoff of the direct presidential elections takes place in Moldova today. About 2.8 million citizens are expected to the ballot boxes.
