Moldova to benefit from USAID support to prevent, combat violence against children

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will be the 23rd country in the world to benefit from USAID support for preventing and combating violence against children.

In this context, Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Stela Grigoras participated in a yesterday’s working meeting with USAID representatives in Moldova and team of U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. The officials discussed the launch of a study meant to approach violence against children and to bring an added value to the action plan for 2016-2020 on implementation of strategy on child protection for 2014-2020.

The support provided by the development partners will comprise elaboration of a study meant to approach violence against children, analysis and dissemination of data, as well as the public institutions’ capacity to use statistics data in elaborating and adjusting documents of public policies on child protection.

“We are willing to back implementation of this study. I am sure it will help us come up with concrete and long-term solutions in order to prevent and combat violence against children in Moldova,” Grigoras said.

Also, Grigoras said that the ministry was currently working in elaborating National Programme on forming parental skills and developing capacities of community actors on identification and assistance of cases of child violence and providing adequate services.

Senior Advisor of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Susan Hillis said “a multisectoral approach is needed in order to prevent violence. It is crucial to record progress towards this phenomenon affecting children around the world.”

Under international statistics, 1 billion children are exposed annually to various forms of violence.
