PM visits airport in north Moldova

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan prime minister, on a working visit to the northern Floresti district, collected facts about the work and programmes on development of the Marculesti International Free Airport, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The PM took knowledge about the activity of the airport, which has a double civil and military purpose, as it provides airport services, as well as services of stocking and renting air transport means.
The people who presented the airport to the prime minister highlighted the favourable location of the airport, at the intersection of commercial and economic ways, the lack of a similar object in the region and the facilities created for investors. Also, the airport’s representatives said that the unit’s residents benefit from customs and tax facilities, having right to practice types of activities, such as wholesale trade, sorting, packing, labeling and other operations with goods.
Pavel Filip discussed with the airport’s administration possibility to enhance the Marculesti Airport’s capacities and modernize it by constructing buildings and adjacent infrastructure. Also, illumination works will be carried out, and a logistics centre will be built. The prime minister stressed the importance to modernize the concerned enterprise and turn to account its potential. “We have inherited an airport which was managed not quite to an extent allowing having a profitable enterprise. We are to identify the problems and constraints this state enterprise is facing. I think there is a huge potential here, it must and will be turned to good account, after we find a more pragmatic approach, after we set a clear-cut objective on how should we transform this enterprise,” the PM said.
The overall volume of investments on the period of airport’s work (May 2009 – September 2016) stood at 13.87 million dollars.
