Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prosecutor General, head of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) will be heard in parliament on investigation of fraud in the banking system. The decision was taken at a today’s parliament meeting.

The initiative on hearings came from MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). Subsequently, it was supported by the majority of MPs attending the meeting.

In this context, Eduard Harunjen, Viorel Chetraru and Sergiu Cioclea will present reports on investigation of bank fraud.

The lawmakers noted that the last hearings on bank fraud were carried out a year ago, but no progress had been announced. “One year has passed when BNM signed the second contract with Kroll Company on the second stage of bank theft investigation. Therefore, we propose hearing of acting prosecutor to report on investigation’s development. Also, CNA head and BNM governor have to present reports on the matter,” PLDM lawmaker Iurie Tap said.

MP of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Vasile Bolea said “we are talking about the same thing half a year. Two years have passed since the theft of billion. We want to see the current situation,” Bolea said.

At the same time, the leader of the Liberal party, Mihai Ghimpu, proposed “during the meeting on unveiling reports it would be good to present the list of people who benefitted from bad loans from the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii), so that the people should know who got the money without returning it, as the fraud set off here,” he said.

“We support this proposal. We want to be presented the list of those who took loans in order to see the person involved in committing this fraud,” the leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM), Vladimir Voronin said.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu remarked “hearings are to be organized at one of parliament meetings next two weeks”.

The first report of company was published by Candu in early May 2015.

The Kroll Company started investigation on 11 February 2015.
