Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/- Exports of vegetable products on the EU market registered upward and diversification trends in the first ten months of 2016, director of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) Gheorghe Gaberi said today.
Gaberi said Moldova exported 209,000 tons of fruits in January-October 2016 against 155,000 tons in the similar period of 2015.
“At the same time, farmers were streamlined to export the finished product and not only raw material, as so far. As an example in this respect represents export of sunflower, oil and sunflower core,” Gaberi said.
Also, the official said exports had risen in some areas of vegetable crops. “A significant increase in grain export was recorded too. Thus, over 1 million tons of grains were exported in the first decade of the year, against the similar period of the last year – 739,000 tons. This is due to high crop in 2016. In some regions of the country, the farmers harvested 6 tons of wheat and barley per hectare, due to implementing the new agricultural technologies,” Gaberi also said.
Among the factors that led to increase in export on the EU market were investments from abroad, subsidies granted to farmers, as well as taking over experience from abroad in developing and reorganizing the agricultural sector.
