Moldovan Socialists to have acting chairwoman

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/ - The former prime minister, Zinaida Greceanii, will act as chairwoman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) till 18 December 2016, when the formation’s members will elect a new chairperson of the party. Igor Dodon, who gave up the mandate of PSRM member, made statements to this effect today.
“According to the legal provisions, Moldova’s president cannot be a party member; therefore, I took the decision to give up the mandate of PSRM member. Also today, the PSRM republican council ruled to convene an extraordinary congress of PSRM on 18 November, this year, during which a new chairperson of the formation, as well as a new composition of the republican council will be elected. Zinaida Greceanii will act as PCRM chairwoman till the congress,” Dodon said.
For her part, Zinaida Greceanii said that “during these five years, PSRM has been a consolidated team; these elections have united us even more. Together, we have made and are to make important things, as we have a huge responsibility before citizens,” Greceanii noted.
The direct presidential polls’ runoff took place in Moldova on 13 November 2016. CEC said that, after 100 per cent of the reports had been processed, PSRM candidate Igor Dodon picked up 52.18 per cent of the votes, while the contender of the Action and Solidarity Party, Dignity and Truth Action Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, Maia Sandu, got 47.82 per cent of the ballots.
