Moldovan parliament speaker, ambassadors-at-large for Eastern Partnership discuss developments in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has discussed developments in Moldova with the ambassadors-at-large for the Eastern Partnership, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Andrian Candu said that the commitments coming from the provisions of the Association Agreement with EU would be implemented punctually in continuation, even of the newly elected president is from the opposition. The speaker referred to the actions carried out by the parliament and government to re-launch the sectoral reforms. At the same time, Candu stressed that the authorities must join efforts to improve the electoral legislation.
“The reports by international observers who attended the recent presidential polls are to be analyzed, in order to see how the legislative framework can be improved, including in terms of the voting of the citizens from abroad. On the next period, we will work, so that, in two years, at the parliamentary elections, we can enforce the system of electronic voting. Certainly, we will not change the Electoral Code without the approval by the Venice Commission,” Andrian Candu said.
The parliament speaker noted that Moldova was opened for taking over the expertise of European states, including in order to work out efficient public strategies and to successfully implement the reforms. According to the speaker, the involvement of the civil society is important as well, through the expertise it may provide to ensure decision-making transparency and fighting corruption.
For their part, the ambassadors-at-large for Eastern Partnership appreciated the achievements recorded by Moldova while implementing the Association Agreement. The European officials reconfirmed support for reforms in Moldova, stressing that the country had managed to make progress which initially seemed impossible.
Also today, the ambassadors-at-large for Eastern Partnership met representatives of the parliamentary factions.
