Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/- International experts today are going to consider in Chisinau the challenges and obstacles hindering the Transnistrian conflict settlement in the current regional context. The talks are held within an international conference titled: “Transnistrian conflict settlement: Quo Vadis?”
Attending the event, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said that platforms for talks had been created to solve the Transnistrian conflict.
“Many people might think that the Transnistrian conflict settlement is discussed for many years. In 2016, we had more events and constructive dialogues on the matter held not just in Chisinau. Therefore, we thank the OSCE experts who made a great effort for effective communication. Debates on the matter existed repeatedly in the parliament. Also, a platform was created for setting landmark elements due to be clarified. We have advanced in talks and analysis, and today we are going to set the ways and solutions, as it is needed to join efforts and to find consensus with all sides involved in,” he said.
For his part, the chairman of the Foreign Policy Association, Vasile Nedelciuc, said that the event aimed at identifying the challenges and proposing eventual solutions to the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
“Initially, it was said that language, ethnic problems and other difficulties for peaceful coexistence are the basis of this conflict, but now the opinions are different, as there are no confrontations between the people, but between the political elites. At the same time, we do not know how to convince Russia to withdraw its troops from the Transnistrian region, as Moldova should be able to integrate into the EU. I hope we will propose viable solutions, as if we are streamlined to European norms, we must settle this conflict in a European way,” Nedelciuc said.
The conference is organized by the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova with the support of Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, a project of German Marshall Fund.
