Moldovan parliament to be illuminated for raising awareness about violence against women, girls

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/- The parliament is going to be illuminated today at 17:30 for raising awareness about violence against women and girls, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The parliament was aligned with a Campaign of the United Nations “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”. An appeal to support victims of gender-based violence was launched by the Common Platform of Dialogue of Women MPs today.
The parliament secretariat started a campaign to collect clothes and essentials for victims of violence. Also, the employees of the parliament put orange scarves and declared “United against violence”.
Under the official statistics data, 1,500 criminal cases on domestic violence were recorded in the first nine months of 2016.
Launched in 1991, the campaign starts on 25 November, Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day. The parliament conducts the campaign in partnership with UNDP, financially supported by Sweden.
