17:29 | 28.11.2016 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ – The second edition of Moldova Eco-Energy Week was started today by the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Energy and Biomass Project in Moldova and the Energy Efficiency Fund at International Exhibition Centre "Moldexpo".

"We will discuss this week patterns of enormous importance for Moldova, primarily because its economy is still very energy-intensive, energy intensity is about three times higher than in EU and around 88 per cent of consumed energy is imported, which makes us dependent on factors that we can not influence," said Mihail Stratan, Director of Energy Efficiency Agency.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP permanent representative in Moldova, Dafina Gercheva, outlined the Moldova’s progress in the area. "In recent five years, Moldova has made clear progress in terms of green energy. In just five years, the consumption of locally produced renewable energy has come to constitute about 13 per cent, largely due to biomass," said UNDP Permanent Representative.

It was emphasized that some things would not stop at the current point. "The enthusiasm and knowledge you can maximize the importance of this objective even more, by means of it it we can help achieve an overall objective: to ensure access to affordable, secure, sustainable and modern energy for all, both for feminine, and for the men," said Dafina Gercheva.

The functioning of the energy market based 100 per cent upon renewable energy was presented by Christopher Willing from Germany. According to the expert, bioenergy is the solution to balance wind and solar energy sources, which value of fluctuates depending on the whims of nature. However, the proper functioning of the system depends on energy storage capabilities, network capacity and market demand.

The opening of the event stipulated the presentation of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency. The main strategic objectives are: ensuring security of gas supply by diversifying routes and sources of supply; strengthening the role of Moldova's gas transit corridor, improving energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy use. Also, ensure the legal, institutional and operational framework for effective competition; Moldova's energy market integration in EU internal market and, not least, ensuring the institutional framework for developing modern and competitive energy industry.

Simultaneously, discussions in the event referred to necessity and premises to promote energy efficiency, as well as renewable energy sources; national targets for energy efficiency, according to the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency 2013 – 2015 and 2016 – 2018, and visions of the financing arrangements for national sustainable development.

The events agenda also includes: Forum "Bioenergy – 2016: For a local energy autonomy"; Fair Eco-Responsible Ideas; The workshop "Energy performance of buildings and support mechanisms" and Moldova Eco-Energy Gala.
