Moldovan, Chinese enterpreneurs assemble at Chisinau business forum

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldovan-Chinese Business Forum opened today in Chisinau. The event is organized in the framework of the eighth issue of the Moldovan-Chinese intergovernmental commission for trade-economic cooperation, which takes place on 1 – 2 December in Chisinau.

Sources within the Organization of Attracting Investment and Export Promotion in Moldova (MIEPO) stated that Forum’s goals were exploring and harnessing of potential cooperation between Moldova and China.

According to Deputy Economics Minister Vitalie Iurcu, Moldovan-Chinese economic cooperation has a dynamic context and came up with a call to the Chinese companies to be more active and invest in Moldova’s economy. "It is necessary to support investors by such intergovernmental platform for developing bilateral relations," said the cited source.

Deputy Director of the Department of Eurasian Affairs, President of the Chinese delegation, Luo Weidong, welcomed the organization of these events and showed optimistic about the upward trend of Chinese investments in economy of Moldova.

At his turn, Vitalie Zaharia, director MIEPO presented business opportunities and priority economic sectors of Moldova and stressed the benefits obtained by investors in this regard.

The agenda also included a description of the economic advantages and investment opportunities of Free Economic Zones and Industrial Parks. There were also elucidated investment opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy potential, peculiarities of the tax system and logistic possibilities in Moldova.

The Chinese delegation is composed of representatives of 16 companies in infrastructure sectors, banking, energy, ICT, food research and development, engineering and construction.

The representatives of 40 companies from Moldova, present at the Forum had the opportunity to explore the Partnership and initiating investment projects with Chinese companies during a meeting.

The trade and economic relations between Moldova and China were established in 1992. Trade between Moldova and China has amounted about $290 million in the first 10 months of 2016. Moldova exports less than 1 per cent of its goods on Popular Republic of China market and the goods produced in China consist about 10 per cent of Moldovan imports. Wines and grapes, optical instruments, furniture are most of Moldovan exports to China, and imports structure prevails the chemicals and metal products.
