Chisinau city hall, top European banks sign loan agreement on thermal isolation of public buildings

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall today signed a loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance a project titled, Energy Efficiency and Thermal Isolation of Public Buildings from Chisinau.
Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has said that this was the most important project of the last ten years, which is to be implemented in the Moldovan capital in the near future.
“This project will bring a considerable benefit for each resident of the city, as well as a radical change of Chisinau’s image. With the support of EBRD, EIB and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), we will manage to capitally repair the roofs, basements, facades, change the windows of the blocks of flats, kindergartens, schools and hospitals of the municipality,” the mayor said.
At the same time, Chirtoaca noted that the feasibility studies were to be completed, and in early 2017, procedures of initiating tenders would start to implement to project. “The loan agreement sees, in the first phase, providing 25 million euros – ten million from EBRD, ten million from EIB and five million will be provided as grant. The loan will be given for a repayment period of 10-15 years, with a minimum interest of 2-3 per cent. Twenty two institutional buildings will be repaired and thermally isolated at this stage,” Chirtoaca said.
Representatives of EBRD, EIB and SIDA in Moldova said that “this project is part of the so-called “green city”, which provides for working out an eco strategy of Chisinau’s development for the next years.”
The project Energy Efficiency and Thermal Isolation of Public Buildings from Chisinau is the fifth one to be carried out in Moldova’s capital with the support of EBRD and EIB. Such projects as purchasing new trolley busses, reconstruction of the drinking water and sewerage supply system, reconstruction of the road infrastructure on six streets in the city’s centre and optimizing the solid waste’s management have been implemented with the support of the European top banks so far.
