More employees from penitentiaries №№ 13, 16 of Chisinau suspended from work

Chisinau, 01 September /MOLDPRES/ – Several employees from penitentiaries №№ 13, 16 of Chisinau were suspended from office after the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Penitentiary Institutions launched a labour investigation on the death of a young man in the penitentiary.

According to the decision makers of the nominated ministry, during the investigation, the deputy head of the medical service and two service officers from Penitentiary № 13, as well as the deputy head and the psychiatrist from penitentiary № 16 will be suspended from the work.

According to the cited source, the suspensions were made "for objective and plenary investigation of the circumstances of the case related to the admission, the course and medication of young man Andrei Braguta within the penitentiary system".

On 31 August, the General Police Inspectorate also announced that it had ordered the initiation of a service inquiry on the case and the suspension of inspector on duty, inspector, inferior inspector, chief officer, all the employees of the Guardian of the Provisional Detention Isolator and the deputy commander of the Special Escort and Guard Battalion of the Police Department of Chisinau municipality.

According to the police, Andrei Braguta was stopped by traffic agents on 15 August 2017 after breaking the speed regime. Then he showed aggressive behaviour towards the police, and a criminal case opened for him. On 18 August, he was placed in custody for a period of 30 days, and died on 26 August in Penitentiary's Hospital № 16. The cause of death, according to preliminary information, was "respiratory insufficiency, purulent bronchopneumonia".
