Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/- The government decision on participation of a military contingent of the National Army in Rapid Trident training course, due on 7-23 September, at Yavoriv Military Training Centre, Ukraine, was published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 6 September.
Under the document, the Defense Ministry will take the necessary steps to organize, deploy and train the military contingent assigned to participate in Rapid Trident training course, and the Foreign and European Integration Ministry will inform the authorities of the host country through diplomatic missions about the approval of participation of the National Army soldiers in the training course.
President Igor Dodon has earlier asked the Defense Ministry to cancel preparation for departure of soldiers to the training course “Rapid Trident”. The presidency asked the ministry to inform the organizers of the military drills that our country will not participate in the event.
At the same time, the government approved yesterday a decision on participation of a contingent of Moldovan soldiers in Rapid Trident training course in Ukraine. The issue was put on the agenda at the suggestion of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who was concerned that President Dodon forbids Moldovan servicemen to take part in training exercises abroad, where the National Army staff gain experience. Soon, the president suspended the government decision, and the Defense Ministry announced that the Moldovan soldiers will attend the event.
The ministry noted that the military drills aim at developing the interoperability level, strengthening defense capabilities and promoting the image of the National Army on the international stage, for further participation in peacekeeping missions.
The Moldovan staff is made up of 57 soldiers of the 22nd peacekeeping battalion and “Moldova” Brigade.
