Prosecutors from six states approach security methods in information technologies in Chisinau

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutors and criminal investigators from six states today discussed in Chisinau security methods in information technologies sector. The event takes place at a regional meeting entitled: “Legislation, Guarantees and Cooperation with Information Technology Service Providers”.
The event is organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Moldova in partnership with the Council of Europe under the Cybercrime@EAP III project. Attending the event were project team members from all Eastern Partnership states and national regulatory authorities in communications.
Deputy Prosecutor Igor Popa said that the event has an important topic. “Strengthening of the information sector is a major factor for the prosperity of the state in the continuous development, therefore the security of the IT system requires the involvement of the law enforcement bodies. So far, a lot of actions had been taken to consolidate capabilities to prevent and combat cybercrime and success had been achieved in this area. We are confident that the meeting will bring good results by enhancing global knowledge, as international cooperation will help fight cybercrime and develop training employees in the legal system”, Popa said.
The event that takes place on 11-12 September is attended by a multinational team of experts from Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, who will present their expertise to the main topic of the meeting. At the same time, the Cybercrime Convention Committee and the Cybercrime Program Office are to express their views on setting standards and capacity building on public and private cooperation.
Cybercrime@EAP III is a joint project of the EU and Council of Europe aimed at improving public/private cooperation in cybercrime in the Eastern Partnership region. The project has a period of 25 months and a budget of about 1.2 million euros.
