Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ – The local referendum on the dismissal of Chisinau mayor general, Dorin Chirtoaca, will take place on 19 November 2017, according to a decision approved today by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC).
Twenty six counselors voted for the draft resolution, against 12 counselors from the Liberal Party (PL). The subject was proposed on the agenda by the chairman of the Socialist faction in CMC, Ion Ceban.
In order for Dorin Chirtoaca to be dismissed, more than 160 thousand votes are needed through a referendum.
The CMC decision was approved after the magistrates of the Chisinau Court of Appeal on 11 September rejected the request of the suspended mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, regarding the authenticity of the signatures from the subscription lists collected for the initiation of the referendum.
The mayor has been at the head of the Moldovan capital since 2007, currently in his third term. The mayor of Chisinau was arrested at the end of May by anticorruption prosecutors and officers, suspected of influence traffic in the pay parking lots case. Also, anticorruption prosecutors announced at the end of August that the mayor was being prosecuted in a new criminal file in which he was suspected of overcoming his job duties in a file on the change in the manner of execution of housing titles in Chisinau.
