Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/- President Igor Dodon has proposed General Victor Gaiciuc for the position of Defense Minister.
The president noted he had sent a letter to Prime Minister announcing that he would not support Eugen Sturza’s candidacy for the post of Defense Minister. “I will not accept in this position a person who is not a professional and who is suspected of violating the legislation on remuneration from external sources. Sturza’s appointment would be a step towards the liquidation of the Ministry of Defense. I reconfirm I will not support this candidacy even if is repeatedly submitted”, Dodon said.
At the same time, the head of state pointed out he had recommended to the premier to propose General Victor Gaiciuc for leading the Defense Ministry. “Mr.Gaiciuc is a competent person and a professional worthy to lead this ministry, who will be able to make positive changes in this sector”, Dodon said.
Gaiciuc served as defense minister in Vasile Tarlev government. He was Ambassador of Moldova to Belgium and a representative of our country to NATO. In December 2005, he also worked concurrently as Ambassador of Moldova to the Netherlands, residing in Brussels.
The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) announced yesterday that Eugen Sturza is nominated by the party for the position of Defense Minister. PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc noted that Sturza is the only candidacy of the party, and if rejected by President Dodon, PDM will propose him repeatedly.
