American government to support children protection projects

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/- The government approved today a decision on initiating negotiations and approving signing of the first amendment to the assistance agreement on development goal between Moldovan and American governments for a more efficient democratic governance, signed in Chisinau on 28 September 2016.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the amendment provides for an increase in funding by 1.75 million dollars and will enter into force upon signature by the parties. As a result of this increase, the amount offered to Moldova under the assistance agreement will exceed 18 million dollars.

The additional funds will be directed to the activities of the new child protection project, aimed at enhancing the safety, well-being and improvement of the conditions for the development of vulnerable children, especially, those who live without family care in state institutions.

The main goals of the project are: to back the Moldovan government in finalizing the reform of de-institutionalization, prevent separation of families, institutionalizing children in risk situation by providing the necessary support and placing children in families or alternative care.
