Moldovan speaker meets Turkish president

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu concluded his official visit to Turkey with a meeting held with Ankara leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials reviewed the success of the Moldovan-Turkish relations and implementation of new projects that will lead to their fortification.
Entry into force of the free trade agreement led to the promotion of economic relations in the last year. Turkey’s president said that the two countries should boost investment and trade, so that they will soon reach 1 billion dollars in commerce.
In this context, the sides also approached the possibility to simplify the citizens’ movement. Candu said that Moldovan authorities will consider and respond very quickly to Turkey’s request to allow Turkish citizens to travel to Moldova only on the basis of the ID.
The Turkish president broached the relations at both executive and legislative level with Gagauzia. Erdoğan appreciated their visible improvement and noted that Gagauzia is an important element in Moldovan-Turkish relations.
“Even if we do not have a common border, we have close relations due to Gagauzia which represents a bridge of friendship between Moldova and Turkey”, he said.
The officials also tackled the security risks and challenges in the region. Erdogan said that Turkey condemns any form of separatism and said that his state will always encourage the Gagauz to integrate in the processes of Moldova, to learn Gagauz and Romanian languages and to actively participate in internal affairs.
Candu thanked for the support at economic, political and social level. In Moldova different projects are implemented via TIKA in such areas as: drinking water supply, hygiene, health, education and so on.
The speaker invited the Turkish president to visit Moldova. For his part, Erdogan said he would try to pay a visit to Chisinau by late 2017.
Candu was accompanied by Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ismail Kahraman, Speaker of People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Vladimir Cissa and parliamentary delegation, including MPs Anatolie Zagorodnîi, Nicolae Dudoglo and Nae-Simion Pleșca.
