Interministerial committee on diaspora to be set up in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- The mechanism for coordination and implementation of state policy on diaspora, migration and development will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 15 September.
The document sees creation of an interministerial committee that will coordinate the elaboration and implementation of state policies in the field. The institution will have to formulate the strategic vision in the field of diaspora and migration in the medium and long term, validate development strategies and plans, and ensure the implementation of the actions in the national development programmes of the government. The committee will be made up of one senior management representative from ministries and central administrative authorities, and its head will be Secretary General of the government.
The new diaspora policy coordination structure was worked out on the basis of a study, carried out with the support of the International Organisation for Migration, mission to Moldova. The document aims at implementing the mechanism of integration of diaspora and migration into development strategies and plans.
According to data by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, over 805,000 Moldovans are currently abroad. The document’s authors said that the data are referring to Moldovans working abroad under national passport, “total number is bigger and cannot be estimated accurately, as most citizens living abroad have ID of other states”.
