Moldova met all conditions to get last instalment of money from IMF - PM says

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova has met all preconditions for signing a new memorandum with the IMF. Prime Minister Ion Chicu made the statement today after a joint meeting with President Igor Dodon and speaker Zinaida Grecianii.

According to the official, next week, the IMF will earmark last instalment of 20 million dollars of the 2016-2020 Program after Moldova has met all preconditions.

The premier noted that the parliament voted in the final reading all laws set out in the memorandum with IMF. Among these laws is the mechanism proposed by the Government allowing the redistribution of 50% of the revenues of the National Bank of Moldova in the state budget, to reduce the burden from theft of the billion and which was placed on the shoulders of citizens.

"All conditions are met. Did you notice that there is no one that would provide for tax increases, salary cuts or other actions contrary to the interests of the Republic of Moldova ”, he said.

On 11 March in Washington, a meeting of the IMF Board of Directors will be held and the completion of the current Program between Moldova and the IMF will be approved and the granting of the last loan tranche worth 20 million dollars.

Last summer, the former cabinet of ministers led by Maia Sandu announced that it intended to increase gas tariffs for people to get the last tranche of money from the IMF.
