Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu has appreciated the fact that the overwhelming majority of the veterans today were by the side of the state’s authorities, in order to pay home to the heroes. The fighters who died in the Transnistria War are commemorated in Moldova on 2 March.

”This is the day of those who fought for the Motherland. This is the day of deep reflections and grieving for the past and, at the same time, of encouraging statements about future,” the PM said.

Ion Chicu also said that the government on 1 January 2020 had increased the monthly allocations for veterans from 100 to 300 lei. As much as 64.3 million lei will be earmarked to cover these budget expenses. The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) worked out a draft law which sees the increase, as of 1 July 2020, of the monthly allocations for the war widows from 250 to 500 lei. The annual cost is of more than three million lei.

Also, the cabinet is to vote a draft law on the providing of health insurance policies at the expense of the state budget to the unemployed war veterans.

As for the rehabilitation of the war veterans, MSMPS additionally allocated 650,000 lei for the financing of the Republican Centre for Prosthesis, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. To provide medical assistance meant for veterans, the Health Ministry’s hospital signed an additional contract with the National health Insurances House (CNAM) worth ten million lei.

”I was happy to learn that the veterans appreciated our gesture; that they want stability and well-being for Moldova and they are sincerely sure that the territorial reunification of Moldova will eventually take place. I thank them for support,” the prime minister said.

The PM showed disappointment about the protest staged in Chisinau today. Chicu described the protest as “an action full of tantrums, organized by hidden political forces, through manipulating a group of protesters and by inciting to hatred and violence on this holy day for the country.”

”Spoiling the doors of the government, of a state’s building is not proof of patriotism; on the contrary, it is a proof that you detest the buildings of the country and statehood. These buildings do not belong to the prime minister or any state official; they belong to the People of Moldova,” the PM said. According to Chicu, some people left themselves led from the shadow by forces who want Moldova’s destabilization, through hatred, aggression and social division.

”We hope that the fact that they were mistaken will reach their conscience. I appeal to everybody to calm and wisdom. We will ensure the good development of the country, as well as our territorial reintegration only in conciliation and agreement,” Prime Minister Ion Chicu added.
