Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu, accompanied by a group of ministers, has laid flowers at the Enernitate (Eternity) Memorial Complex, thus commemorating those who died in the Transnistria War, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

„The Transnistria War continues to be a tragedy of our people. What started on 2 March 1992 did not end in July. The country will be reintegrated, no matter how much some people from Tiraspol, Chisinau and from other parts interested oppose. Let us unite around the goal of the country’s economic development. Let us make Moldova a wished place of residence for everybody, including for our citizens from Transnistria. I am quite sure that we can do this. Foreigners believe in the future of our country more than we do and are willing to invest in the economy,” Ion Chicu said.

The prime minister also referred to the need to promote the values of patriotism and to reduce the division of the society. He called on the people to unite not against something, but to reconstruct the country.

The PM highlighted the work of the national council of veterans, meant to collect the problems of the veterans, prioritize them and elaborate projects for their settlement.

The prime minister stressed the importance of keeping in memory the heroes who had died for the country’s independence and territorial integrity. The 28th anniversary of the beginning of the Transnistria War is marked in 2020. More than 30,000 people participated in that war, of whom 300 servicemen and civilians died.
