Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Hundreds of veterans today protested in Chisinau, 28 years since the unleashing of the Transnistria War. The event resulted in clashes and the government building’s door was spoiled. The movement was paralyzed in the centre of Chisinau during the protest.
The participants in the event asked for the resignation of the Moldovan leadership, as well as of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. They started their protest on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) and afterwards they moved to the government building, where they broke the institution’s door. After several hours, they blocked the movement of transport in the centre of Chisinau and more routes of trolley bus and bus were redirected to the adjacent streets.
The fighters said they would continue the manifestations and urged the citizens to back them.
Today afternoon, Prime Minister Ion Chicu came up with an appeal to the protesters, thereby urging them to calm and wisdom.
The prime minister showed disappointment about the protest, which he described as “an action full of tantrums, organized by hidden political forces, through manipulating a group of protesters and by inciting to hatred and violence on this holy day for the country.” ‘’Spoiling the doors of the government, of a state’s building is not proof of patriotism; on the contrary, it is a proof that you detest the buildings of the country and statehood. These buildings do not belong to the prime minister or any state official; they belong to the People of Moldova,” the PM said.
According to Chicu, some people left themselves led from the shadow by forces who want Moldova’s destabilization, through hatred, aggression and social division. ”We hope that the fact that they were mistaken will reach their conscience. I appeal to everybody to calm and wisdom. We will ensure the good development of the country, as well as our territorial reintegration only in conciliation and agreement,” Prime Minister Ion Chicu added.
