Moldovan, European officials broach reforms, cooperation

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/- At the end of his working visit to Brussels, President Igor Dodon had a meeting with European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, the presidential press service has reported.
Dodon emphasized the importance of continuing the bilateral dialogue with the European Union, reaffirming Moldova's commitment to the European integration path in implementing the Association Agreement and enforcing the most important reforms in the interest of citizens. He reiterated that the current leadership of the country is firm in the decision to continue promoting the balanced foreign policy between East and West, based on national interests.
The president pointed out determining the country's leadership to continue the fight against corruption and reforming the justice system, given the assessments and recommendations of the Council of Europe and the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and the European Union.
Dodon confirmed the authorities' intention to boost the investigation of criminal cases of great resonance, especially the theft of billion, including initiating recovery of money and prosecuting those involved in this fraud who are abroad.
In another context, the head of state noted willingness of legislative and executive authorities of Moldova to hold direct meetings with management of the European Commission to inform our partners objectively and in detail about the priorities of the country's internal and foreign policy.
The officials approached cooperation with the International Monetary Fund. In particular, the president pointed out the successful completion of the 2016-2020 program, which expires on 20 March, and confirmed Moldova’s willingness to start negotiations for the next program.
