Prospects for Moldova's cooperation with North Atlantic Alliance discussed in Brussels

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/ - The priorities in the Moldova – NATO cooperation agenda, including the working out of a new Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), implementation of the NATO Assistance Package for strengthening Moldova’s defence and security capacities, carrying out of projects within the Science for Peace and Security programme, cooperation in fighting the new threats to security, as well as the promotion of public diplomacy activities were discussed at a meeting between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi and NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
Minister Aureliu Ciocoi thanked for the expertise provided to Moldova during years and reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ interest in continuing the political dialogue and practical cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance in the fields of interest. In particular, Ciocoi stressed the authorities’ commitment to set the priority sectors of interaction with the Alliance for 2020-2022 within the new IPAP.
For his part, Mircea Geoana reconfirmed the Alliance’s support for the partnership with Moldova and voiced the organization’s support for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The NATO official appreciated Moldova’s contribution to strengthening security in Europe, by participation in the KFOR peace keeping operation in the Kosovo region. Also, Geoana expressed the Alliance’s willingness to further back the processes of reformation and modernization from Moldova, based on the requests by the country’s authorities.
