Moldovan Democratic Party rules to start discussions for returning to governance

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) will hold discussions for the return to governance. The PDM National Political Council, which held a meeting, took a decision to this effect today.

A press release issued by the formation shows that PDM took note of the fact that an eventual dialogue with the ACUM bloc had failed, as the bloc’s leaders want snap parliamentary elections.

“PDM considers that the snap polls do not represent a solution and that they will have negative effects, as 2020 would become a lost year too. Given that the Party of Socialists (PSRM) showed openness for a possible dialogue and governance which is to share responsibilities with PDM, the members of the National Political Council delegated and empowered representatives of the Democratic Party, who are to hold discussions with PSRM, in certain conditions,” the communiqué reads.

The Democrats’ leadership informs that, if discussions are held, PDM will bring to the forefront, as priorities, the European integration and a foreign policy oriented to the West, good relations with Romania and Ukraine, the country’s territorial integrity, state’s security, including the energy security and independence, identity values (language, history). “These are red lines for us and certain discussions can take place only in these conditions,” PDM leader Pavel Filip said at the meeting.

The discussions are to start next days, after which the party will take a decision.

Today afternoon, PSRM said that it was initiating talks for the creation of a coalition with PDM. The Socialists noted that the same political agreement, signed by PSRM with the ACUM Bloc – a document accepted by the society and the international partners – would stay at the basis of a possible future political alliance.
