Two billion lei needed for modernization of railway section Bender - Giurgiulești

Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu visited Basarabeasca railway node. During the 26 December 2019 visit, he experienced the economic, technical and material situation of subdivisions of the company in Basarabeasca, including delays in paying wages, and asked for payment of wages on time and elaboration of the vision of overcoming the crisis and development, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

CFM director informed Chicu that there are no wage arrears at the company. It is planned to increase the salaries of employees.

At the Basarabeasca railway node, 12 locomotives purchased for CFM will be located under a project funded by EBRD and EIB. The locomotives will be delivered by late July 2020, some of them will reach the CFM earlier.

Currently, CFM is forming the team of specialists who will follow trainings at the locomotive manufacturer, the factory of the American company General Electric in Kazakhstan.

1,535 people are employed at Basarabeasca railway node. The salary fund per node is about 7 million lei. The node was provided with medicines worth 35,586 lei and business tools amounting to 64,000 lei.

In the following period, the employees of the node will perform repair of 350 freight wagons worth 600 thousand dollars.

The Prime Minister has prioritized care for employees and investments in increasing employee competence, infrastructure modernization, improving the competitiveness of transport services and increasing transport volumes.

Chicu moted the need to modernize the railway sector on Bender - Giurgiulești route, which is in a deplorable condition. According to recent estimates, two billion lei are needed for its reconstruction.

"The works should be initiated as soon as possible. We see Basarabeasca railway node as an important point of development of the railway infrastructure. We will make massive investments, just over 40 million euros we will invest in new locomotives", said Ion Chicu.

The prime minister congratulated the ladies employed at the company on International Women's Day. He thanked them for their dedication to the work and families, and wished them success.
