Value of protocol presents could not exceed 1,000 lei during one year in Moldova

Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government decision on the legal regime of presents will be published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) on 6 March. Under the decision, the maximal sum of 1,000 lei during one year is established as overall allowed value of presents, offered out of courtesy or on the occasion of protocol actions.
At the same time, the cabinet approved a regulation on the legal regime of presents. The regulation sees the types of presents and the way of their management.
The draft decision on the legal regime of presents was worked out by the Justice Ministry, in cooperation with the National Anticorruption Centre and with the support of the Joint European Union/Council of Europe Project Controlling Corruption through Law Enforcement and Prevention. The draft’s goal is to strengthen the anticorruption framework in Moldova, in accordance with the European and international standards.
The ensuring of the observance of the legal regime of presents is one of the actions provided for in the Action Plan of the National Integrity and Anticorruption Strategy for 2017-2020.
In various countries, the maximal value of the present offered to public persons differs. For instance, in Montenegro, the maximal value of a present is of 50 euros, in Romania – about 200 euros and in Ireland – 650 euros.
