Project providing for full scanning of border to be implemented in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today discussed with Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan and the vice president of the International Business Development Company, Marc Morelli, intention to implement a project, which provides for the full scanning of Moldova’s border. Attending the meeting were also decision-makers of the Customs Service and Finance Ministry, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The project stipulates investments worth several million of dollars, in order to set software, endow customs checkpoints with modern equipment, cargo scanning systems and automobiles. All scanned information will be stocked in a database, within a command centre.
The project is meant to maximally optimize the customs procedures. Through reducing the involvement of the human factor and digitizing the processes, the project will combat the corruption, will contribute to the increase in the revenues of the Customs Service and will turn Moldova into an attractive country for the foreign partners.
In the first phase, a pilot project will be implemented at one of the most demanded border crossing point. Subsequently, it will be extended nationally.
Ion Chicu welcomed the idea and assured the investor of every needed support. “We are open for cooperation. I wish you success in the implementation of the pilot project.”
