Moldovan premier meets Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today met Council of Europe’s 9 (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović. The PM thanked the Commissioner for CoE’s constant support and openness to assist Moldova on the way of reforms, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister noted that the cabinet had approved a draft law on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. So far, the Convention has been ratified by 34 Council of Europe member states and signed by another 12 states, including Moldova.
The officials tackled the main documents of politics nationally, among which the national action plan in the human rights sector for 2018-2022, national strategy of prevention and combating of violence against women and domestic violence for 2018-2023, the national strategy of prevention and combating the trafficking of human beings for 2018-2023, etc. Decision-makers give final touches to the elaboration of the Health Strategy 2020-2030 and the Education Strategy 2020-2030, which has a special chapter dedicated to the inclusive education. The National Council for the Protection of the Rights of the Child has resumed its work.
Increased attention is paid to the programme on backing the people at risk. In the context, the PM said that, in the last two years, ”the salaries of the physicians, as well as of the teachers have been substantially increased. We create optimum conditions to cease the exodus of specialists.”
Those three institutions for human rights from Moldova, - the Interethnic Relations Agency, Office of Ombudsman and the Council for Preventing and Eliminating Discrimination and Ensuring Equality – hold meetings quarterly and actively cooperate.
At the same time, 54 community mediators work nationally. As much as 3.5 million lei was allocated from the budget for their work.
