Moldovan PM considers project on improving efficiency of Centralized Thermal Energy Supply System

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today chaired a meeting, during which the participants considered aspects of the phase II of the project on improvement of the Centralized Thermal Energy Supply System (SACET II). Attending the meeting were World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Anna Akhalkatsi, Minister Anatol Usatii, state secretaries, representatives of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), Termoelectrica stock company, etc. the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.       

Anna Akhalkatsi referred to the positive results of the phase I of the project and informed about the World Bank’s intention to back by investments the continuation of developing the infrastructure of the Termoelectrica stock company.

The WB experts voiced concern about some regulation practices enforced by ANRE.   

The project supported by the World Bank provides for investments in infrastructure of Termoelectrica worth about 100 million dollars and has three components at its basis: optimizing the thermal and electric energy generation costs, enhancing the energy efficiency and consultation support.  

Ion Chicu touched upon the need to modernize the infrastructure of Termoelectrica, to cut the costs for producing the thermal and electric energy and provide the Chisinau residents with qualitative services at reasonable prices. ‘’We will have technical discussions on all platforms necessary for the creation of optimum conditions for the development of Termoelectrica. This is an asset of the state and we must ensure its sustainable functionality.’’  

The project is to be approved by the Worlds Bank’s board in next mid-June.
