Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - The citizens will receive their pensions at home, in order to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 virus. President Igor Dodon has made statements to this effect at the end of the Supreme Security Council’s (CSS) meeting.
„We understand that the risk is high for the elderly people, who take their pensions at post offices and queues of hundreds of people appear. We consider the mechanism and costs, in order to bring the pension home,’’ Dodon said.
The head of state noted that the Moldovan health system would cope with a crisis triggered by COVID-19. ‘’The practice of the last years has proved that the medical system of Moldova can cope with emergency public health situations and the intentions of some politicians to bring panic to the society does nothing but turns more difficult the enforcement of measures to limit the spread of the infections. In the last years, Moldova faced more complicated situations, including in 2008, when a large number of cases of diseases with mumps was recorded – more than 31,000 cases and, fortunately, no death. In 2009-2011, the country was hit by the swine flu AH1N1. More than 36,000 people were affected, of whom 43 died,’’ Dodon said.
The president called to calm, prudence and seriousness in treating this crisis and urged both the politicians and the citizens to act united, in order to minimize the risks of the spread of this virus in Moldova.
