Twenty seven cases suspected of COVID-19 recorded in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - There are 27 people suspected of infection with COVID-19 in hospitals of Moldova at present and there are 12 confirmed cases of this virus. Two cases out of the confirmed ones are of local spread. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu today made statements to this effect at the end of a meeting of the Focal Post.     

According to Dumbraveanu, samples were collected from all persons suspected of infection with Coronavirus, which were submitted to the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP). She specified that two cases of local spread of the COVID-19 virus had been detected so far.   

„As for the last two cases, we can speak about the fact that two persons came from France and the United Kingdom. In another two cases, the people were infected locally – the husband was infected from the wife who came from Italy and in the second case – a daughter-in-law was infected from mother-in-law.  A more serious fact is that the young woman is pregnant,’’ Dumbraveanu said.   

The health minister noted that seven persons out of those infected with COVID-19 had a medium state, three were in a satisfactory condition and two persons were put in the Republican Hospital. The people infected with Coronavirus are from Chisinau and from the districts of Floresti, Basarabeasca, Hancesti, Cahul, Soroca.  

The official repeatedly called on citizens to be responsible and observe the authorities’ instructions, but especially the ones of the medical staff. 

The World Health Organization informed that the COVID-19 epidemic can be declared as pandemic. Twelve confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed in Moldova till 15 March. According to data by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, starting from 31 December 2019 till 15 March 2020, as many as 143,247 cases of infection with the new-type Coronavirus (COVID-19) (clinically confirmed and laboratory ones) and 5,407 deaths were reported. As many as 3,194 of these deaths are in China, Italy (1, 268), Iran (514), Spain (121), South Korea (72), France (79), USA (47), Japan (21),  the United Kingdom e (10), Iraq (8), cases from the Japan international transport, Switzerland, (7each), Philippines (6), Germany, the Netherlands, San Marino (5 each), Indonesia (4), Australia, Belgium (3 each), Algeria, Argentina, Egypt, (2 each), Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Ecuador, Greece, Guyana, Ireland, Luxembourg, Morocco, Norway, Panama, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand (1each).
