Twenty three cases of COVID-19 registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - There are 23 cases of COVID-19 in Moldova. Another 11 cases of Coronavirus today were confirmed in the country. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu has made statements to this effect after a meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by coronavirus.
According to Dumbraveanu, 23 people have been hospitalized in the last hours; laboratory samples were collected from all these persons.
The health minister said that eight out of the 23 confirmed cases were of local transmission and the rest were imported. There is also a child among the infected persons. The minor was infected from his mother, who returned from Italy.
At the same news conference President Igor Dodon said that the authorities have needed places, medicines and equipment to cope with the situation.
Today, the authorities informed that they were ceasing the air traffic and limiting the terrestrial borders for the foreign citizens. Starting from 16 March, only the food stores, drug stores and fuels supply stations will work in Moldova.
The World Health Organization said that the COVID-19 epidemic can be declared pandemic and the Moldovan authorities established red code of alert nationally as to the epidemiological situation through infection with the new coronavirus.
