Thirty six COVID-19 cases registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - There are 36 cases of COVID-19 in Moldova. Another six cases were confirmed in the country today. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu made statements to this effect after a meeting of the single command centre for the management of the crisis triggered by coronavirus.
According to Dumbraveanu, so far, 372 people have been tested for COVID-19 and 36 tests were positive. One person was treated and discharged from hospital and the first death was recorded today.
Two cases of infection with COVID-19 have a serious evolution, three patients are in satisfactory state and the other sick people are of medium gravity. All patients ill with coronavirus are hospitalized and benefit from treatment.
Attending the meeting, President Igor Dodon said that three out of the six cases registered today were imported and three - of local transmission. He noted that, for the time being, Moldova had the lowest increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the region. ‘’The measures enforced, even if more drastic, are efficient,’’ Dodon stressed.
The head of state warned the media sources which spread fake news about coronavirus that he would propose the amendment of the legislation and calling to account of the media sources which promote falsehoods and instigate to panic. ‘’We elaborate a package of measures for the real sector of the economy and for the citizens who stay at home. I saw that the prices for some products increase. We warn you to stop this speculation; otherwise, we will cap the prices for some essential products,’’ Dodon said.
The Moldovan president specified that five regional meetings with the participation of the country’s leadership would take place in Moldova on 19 March, during which subjects on the management of COVID-19 will be discussed.
The parliament on 17 March approved the decision on the declaring of the state of emergency on the entire territory of Moldova on the period 17 March – 15 May 2020.
During the state of emergency, the Commission for Emergency Situation of Moldova will issue instructions, in order to enforce more measures, which are compulsory and executory for the heads of the central and local public administration, economic agents, public institutions, as well as for the citizens and other people who stay in Moldova.
